My Journey from Synthetic to Natural Fabrics

As a fashion and textile designer, I have always been aware of the fabrics that make up our clothing.
I knew the differences between natural and synthetic fibres, understood their properties and appreciated the role they played in design and garment construction. Like many people, however, I mainly viewed fabrics through the lens of aesthetics, functionality and practicality.
For years, I wore synthetic fabrics without giving much thought to how they might influence the way I felt. They were often affordable, easy to care for and well suited to modern lifestyles.
Over time, however, I began to notice something unexpected.
I found myself becoming increasingly drawn to natural fabrics such as linen, hemp and cotton. It was not simply a matter of appearance or design preference. These materials seemed to offer a different wearing experience, one that felt more comfortable, breathable and aligned with my everyday needs.
This observation sparked my curiosity.
As both a designer and a naturally curious person, I wanted to understand why. I began exploring not only the practical qualities of natural fibres, but also the ways people describe their relationship with the materials they wear.
The deeper I looked, the more fascinated I became by the connection between clothing, comfort, wellbeing and conscious choices.
This journey changed the way I looked at clothing...
